  • Appearing on Mr Dilly Meets … (Wed Jan 19th) to read a couple of poems and promote the Dirigible Balloon.
  • Approached Troika Books about a possible anthology using DB poems as a source (some marvellous poems on the Balloon) … not hopeful
  • Bottled the Kendal Children’s Poetry Festival … panicked after family illness
  • Offered the possibility of more work delivering poetry workshops in schools for the Wordsworth Trust … so pleased. Had to write a short blurb for schools about me and my poetry. After looking at others written by proper poets, this is what I’ve written: Poet, editor of ‘The Dirigible Balloon’, book reviewer and retired deputy head teacher, the influence and importance of nature in childhood has been a recurring theme in Jonathan’s work which has been described as ‘lyrical’ and ‘Wordsworthian’ by Greg Freeman of Write-Out Loud and ‘life-affirming’ and ‘rooted in rural Cumbria’ by Steve Whitaker of The Yorkshire Times: “Humble is a teacher by profession; an instinct for fledgling nurture, an urge for care, overflows naturally into his poetics, as though the two were the interdependent echoes of a choir separated only by a sonic exchange in a church nave.”
  • Mr Dilly went really well … have been asked to become the programme’s regular ‘poet in residence’ with a new show coming up on February 8th with a theme of books, reading and libraries.
  • Contacted National Literacy Trust about possible funds generated by publication of a DB anthology.
  • Second Dilly appearance went well.
  • Podcast offer re. the Dirigible … not getting hopes up.
  • Acceptance from the Caterpillar for a short story for kids ‘A Trick for Grimsby’ .
  • No sign of a Troika follow-up from earlier in the year but an offer for the Dirigible Balloon anthology publication has come from the Yorkshire Times group which looks more promising. Looking to a Christmas publication. Have begun a longlist of possible poems and have approached an illustrator.
  • Podcast possibilities with Novel Audio rep. came and went … not sure what’s happening there.

  • May 7th have begun contacting poets for the Dirigible anthology. Long job. Could take some time.
  • Library work in Kendal going well
  • Engaged illustrator for the Dirigible Balloon anthology
  • June 2nd … all poets contacted for the anthology. 100% acceptance. 60 poets 80 poems. On to the next stage …
  • June 24th two acceptances: a children’s poem and a short story (things are looking up).
  • Reading (in a minor way) at the Kirkby Lonsdale Poetry Festival on August 14th in the afternoon. Not sure how I’m getting there … may have to cycle.
  • Dirigible Balloon anthology Chasing Clouds … Adventures in a Poetry Balloon published end of November 2022
  • Launch carried out on Zoom (80 attendees) … massive success
  • November 28th … Injured back has caused postponement of school readings (disappointed)
  • Missing Colours published in Winter Issue of The Caterpillar Magazine
  • Masterclass shortlisted for The Milk House Best Poem of 2022. In among some absolutely marvellous poems … honoured to be considered in this company.
  • December 28th Masterclass announced as judge Nicki Griffin‘s choice for the winning poem … shellshocked.
  • Injured back developed into referred pain down left leg … hobbling about with walking frame/walking stick
